Trade Marks searches may be performed by clients either directly in the Intellectual Property Office, by completing an application form or through the online service portal.

The online service portal enables you to search the Register of Trade Marks with either a registered trade mark number, a GGGT or a UK trade mark number, text or by mark image using the Vienna classification system.

The Trade Marks Register is established, maintained and made available by the Registrar of Intellectual Property in accordance with s.61 of the Ordinance.

Electronic register records are supported by historic ledger documents which may need to be referred to from time to time in order to get a full case history. For marks registered in the Bailiwick before 1st June 2006, we advise clients to refer to Royal Court documents in addition to consulting the electronic information.

There also remain a number of sections of proprietor information that are being reviewed and updated as part of an ongoing data project. Should you wish to request formal confirmation of current proprietor details we will be pleased to assist. You should contact the IP team directly at ipo@guersneyregistry.com

Searches may be applied for by clients for two reasons:

  1. To find out the current information held on the Intellectual Property Register regarding a particular trade mark.
  2. To find out the availability of a Trade Mark for registration in the Guernsey Intellectual Property Office.

The form needed to apply for a search is GTM S, which may be downloaded via the following link:
