How do I register an Image Right ?
Although Image Rights are managed through a variety of corporate structures in other jurisdictions at the moment, the Bailiwick of Guernsey Image Rights Ordinance means that there is no other jurisdiction in the world that has image rights legislation with an image rights register. Defining image rights in law gives the owners of these rights clarity and the ability to manage their rights.
An image right becomes a right capable of protection under the Image Rights Ordinance through registration with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO). Registration will enable the image right to be protected, licensed and assigned.
Any application or submission regarding an image right in the Bailiwick of Guernsey MUST be carried out by a registered Image Rights Agent unless the application or submission is undertaken as follows:
Any person, either resident or not normally resident in the Bailiwick of Guernsey may make an application to register his/her own personality by appearance in person at the Intellectual Property Office in Guernsey.
The Registrar keeps and maintains a register of Image Rights Agents having assessed an application from a qualifying person(s).
